Import Events From .CSV Files

Download a CSV template, add event details, then upload them to Crescat.

About This Article

This article introduces CSV Event Imports, shows you where it is, and how to work with the data. No prior knowledge is required except how to work with spreadsheets.

Locating the Import Feature

On your group's settings page, click Imports under Group Settings.

Then open the Import Group Events item.

Step 1: Uploading Your CSV

Without data to work with, the slide-out menu that appears starts off rather empty. Click Upload CSV, select the file from your file system, and upload it. The additional steps will then appear.

The slide-out will update automatically once Crescat has finished reading the file.

Downloading the Template

In the upper right of the Import slide-out, click Download Example.

The example csv file will contain data similar to this:

Date Format

Crescat will do it's best to guess your intentions with the date, but if anything goes wrong, try using a 4 digit year, followed by the month, day, hour, and then minutes.

More

This is the standardized date format defined in ISO 8601. In clearer terms, you start with the largest unit of time, and then step down into smaller units towards the right.

  • YYYY/MM/DD HH:MM
  • YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM
  • YYYY.MM.DD HH:MM

Step 2: Working With the Data

You can finesse your fields here in Step2.

Field Mapping

The area on the left shows how Crescat believes the data should be connected to the event. The first half lists the Event Terms, the other half displays the headers found in your CSV that correlate best to these terms.

Tip

If any Event Terms are incorrectly mapped to a CSV column, you can switch them around by opening the dropdowns and selecting the correct item.

Data Preview

Next to that is the data preview. This doesn't show you how Crescat interprets the data. It only displays what CSV data was mapped to which Event Term. You can use the arrows in the upper right to cycle through the Events.

Adding Fields to Your CSV

If you're unsure what can be imported, check the Add Fields menu. There, you can see a list of the Event Terms that Crescat will attempt to pair with the column headers of your CSV. Thus, adding these terms to the CSV will help Crescat detect them automatically.

The Event Type column below was added manually, and the data was auto-detected in the example above.

Tip

Add Fields is also the place where you can enable fields that weren't automatically detected. Then you can manually map it to your data using the dropdowns in Step 2.

Step 3: Your Events

Step 3 is where you see how Crescat interprets the data. If Crescat was unable to interpret the data, the upload still succeeds but the field will be left blank. When that occurs, simply click the field to enter the correct data.

Here is the data that produced this result:

Tip

When something doesn't look right in Step 3, it's recommended that you compare it with the Data Preview in Step 2. Then you can manually enter the correct data into the fields, then, if possible, fine tune your CSV so that Crescat can interpret the data better next time.
